The old style feel, pool table and tasty, hearty homemade food would bring me back, and the town has an interesting history too. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and the beds were cosy and comfortable. The rooms are basic, though. I lost three hours of sleep after waking at 5am because no one had shown me the electric skylight blind, which rather defeated my plan to rest and have a lie-in. There was also an occasional smell of cigarette smoke coming into our room. Parking on the road is limited, so it could be tricky on a sunny day, during holidays or when special events are on.

Haddington is a charming town, and this friendly pub made us feel like locals. Staff and regulars were welcoming throughout our four-night stay. The guest rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was included and very good. It’s only about 15 minutes from the Golf Coast, so it worked well for our golf trip. I’d recommend it if you want somewhere affordable and close to the courses.

The breakfast was excellent, and the evening meal was just ok. Staff gave great service. The rooms need some TLC, especially the carpet, so I might come back to eat but probably wouldn’t stay overnight again.

Breakfast was good, and the bed itself was comfortable. The room, though, needs updating and was dirty, with a faded carpet. The drawer had lost its back, there was no mattress protector, and the faux leather on both the headboard and bed base was peeling in lots of places. There were lumps in the wall, and the shower fan was clogged with dirt.

I had a really enjoyable overnight stay. The evening meal, breakfast and Tennants were all top quality, and the staff were more than helpful.
