Wool Merchant Hotel

I was counting down to morning so I could leave, and I certainly wouldn't visit again. The room felt grubby, with cobwebs on the ceiling and tiny moths flying around. The curtains were stained, there were screws on the windowsill, and barely any plugs for charging or connecting anything. Don't ask what it was like behind the bed. The pillows were wafer thin, like ham in Schitts Creek, and the sheets didn't fit. There was no decaf coffee or bottled water either. It wasn't a comfortable night. If you work in this business, ask yourself whether you'd stay here.

The new owner has just taken over and is working hard to make the hotel even better. He's a really nice guy, and the customer service was outstanding. Great location too. I'd book here again, 100%. (Greenway's 2/5/26)

The room was so dirty I left instead of staying the four nights I'd booked. Carpets and chair upholstery were heavily soiled, and the shower cubicle had old black dirt and mould. They took full payment. I sent an email and made several calls explaining why the room wasn't habitable, with photos showing how disgusting it was. Seven days later I'm still waiting for a refund. The last person I spoke to was Simon, the area manager, who said he'd respond by close of business today. Still nothing. A dirty hotel with blatant disregard for customer service. Avoid at all costs.

For £39 for a double room including breakfast, it was good value. We stopped at short notice last Friday, booked direct, and each guest got a free drink at the bar. The room was spacious, if a little dated, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good and the service impeccable. It's not the Ritz, but what's not to like? 😁
