For the price, it wasn’t bad, and my room was clean. The decor is dated, though, and the bed squeaked a lot. There was plenty of noise overnight, with doors slamming and so on. If stairs are difficult for you, mention it when booking: I had to climb two flights carrying a heavy bag and rucksack, which wasn’t easy in my older years. Pages did the job, but I wouldn’t stay longer than a night.

The room was basic and clean, and the temperature was just right. I slept fairly well because the bed was comfortable. A few simple fixes would have made a difference: the bathroom sliding-door handle was hanging off, and it was a push-pull type of handle, while the laminate edging wasn’t secured and could be a trip hazard. I’ll leave it there.

We stayed in a nice, spacious garden room, but breakfast was very poor. I understand it’s self-service, but there was nothing to make apart from bread and butter.

Pages Holtel is my favourite place to stay in harlow. It’s a quaint, lovely house in a quiet area, with clean sheets, comfortable beds and cleaners around all the time. The rates are competitive, and parking and WiFi are included. If that’s the sort of hotel you like, Pages Hotel is the one for you.

A lovely hidden gem, and I’ll definitely come back. The owner was excellent at communicating, and the communal areas are gorgeous. Since the kitchen is shared, of course you should wash up after yourself. Some maintenance in the shared bathrooms would help. The place is in a gorgeous village, close to the airport and road and rail links, with free parking.
