Close House

The staff made our family feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and they kept looking after us throughout the stay. They were especially thoughtful with the gluten-free food, so that was completely stress-free. Close House is beautifully looked after, with peaceful countryside views and immaculate grounds. Our room was stylish, spotless and comfortable, with little touches that made it feel special. The service was friendly and professional without being too formal. The golf course is exceptional, but you don’t need to play golf to enjoy a quiet break or a special occasion here. Another lovely stay at Close House, and we can’t wait to return.

The two courses are both really interesting, and each feels different. Even at this time of year, the greens and course were in fantastic condition. The rooms felt like those in a five-star hotel, and the whole setup, from arrival to departure, was faultless. I’ve just come back from a weekend at Close House, and it’s easily the best golf resort I’ve visited in the UK. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Even if you’re not a golfer, it’s a superb spot. We went for Sunday lunch, which was delicious, with a good choice of drinks and lovely, friendly service.

I really enjoyed the challenge, and I’d go back if they offered me a discount. Playing and paying with my son gets a little on the hefty side. It’s a fantastic Lee Westwood course, but the greens were a letdown, so I can’t quite give it five stars even though my expectations were almost met. Maybe it was the season or the weather, but they were very slow and the grass felt a little too long. The ball didn’t roll true, which got quite annoying at times, and pars don’t come easily off the whites. There was a little standing water in places too. One question for the greenkeepers: how do you get your greens so lush? 😀
