We booked at the last minute to avoid travelling early and found the place really cosy and homely. The staff were brilliant, and Karen is lovely, going above and beyond for her guests. We enjoyed the breakfast and our stay so much that we booked a second night, then booked again for a few weeks later.

Our car broke down after a day at Longleat Safari, and we came across the Red Lion pub. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food and hospitality were lovely. Thank you for looking after us and our 3 year old. We’d highly recommend it.

The steak and ale pie was high quality, basically a steak wrapped in pastry, and the portions were filling. It’s a quaint little pub with delicious food, a friendly atmosphere, and lovely staff. A very calm, friendly dog greeted us at the door and came to see us a few times during our short stay. The staff seemed more concerned with the dog’s health than with my brief bond with it, though, so I wasn’t allowed to give it a bit of pie. Lovely place. What more do you want?

The Beef & Ale pie was packed with beef, and it came with a mountain of chips. Some of the best pub food I’ve had. At 6:30pm on a Thursday it was really busy, the sort of crowd most city centre bars would envy on a Friday. Service and food wait times were good considering how busy it was. Dog friendly and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Food 4/5: I ordered steak and chips. The portion was very big, which was great, and the chips were really crispy. The steak was undercooked, but still edible and tasty otherwise. Price 5/5: Great price for such a large portion. Atmosphere 4/5: The pub had a great atmosphere, but the pub dog kept weaving under the table and going up to everyone looking for food. Cute as it is, that felt a bit uncomfortable, especially for someone who isn’t a dog person. Service 5/5: The staff were efficient and friendly. Overall 4.2/5: A great lunch spot, though maybe avoid it if you don’t like a dog pestering you while you eat.
