We’ve been holidaying in Norfolk three times a year for 15 years and have eaten at the Wheatsheaf over the last two, always feeling welcome until this visit. We’d booked the same table for five on Friday, our last night, to see our Norfolk friends before returning in November. We’d had a lovely meal there on Monday, served by two friendly, helpful young staff members, so we were looking forward to another good evening. When we arrived, an older female server told us our reserved table had been changed. We said we weren’t happy, but she said she couldn’t fit us all into the fenced area where we’d sat earlier in the week. She seemed irritated and wasn’t welcoming. We ended up in direct sun, looking out through a dirty window and at the backs of the music entertainers. We ordered one course and left as soon as we’d finished. When we paid, we explained we’d been unhappy, and then found out our original table hadn’t even been reserved for anyone else. We won’t return to the Wheatsheaf. We’ll go somewhere that makes us feel welcome.

We stayed at the Wheatsheaf for one night and had a really great time. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The pub and its outdoor garden areas were lovely. Most of all, the staff made us feel welcome. They were kind, friendly, and helpful. I’d highly recommend it as a place to stay while exploring the Norfolk coast.

We’ll definitely come back next time we’re in Norfolk. Even over a packed bank holiday weekend, all the staff stayed calm and efficient. The manager was helpful and composed, and Charlie behind the bar was brilliant, such a polite, efficient young man. The food was superb, and our spacious room had everything we needed, including a comfortably firm mattress. The location is handy for Norfolk’s 'hot spots'. Couldn’t fault our two days here.

We dropped in for dinner on a Monday and were pleasantly surprised. The food was good quality, honestly prepared, and very reasonably priced. It was cooked and presented well, and the staff were polite and friendly. I can’t find anything to fault, which feels rare these days. Definitely happy to recommend.

The Wheatsheaf has moved to the top of our list of pubs for Sunday lunch, most of which we’ve been trying north of Norwich. It’ll be hard to beat. We had fabulous lunch today, with great service and good value. It’s a lovely traditional pub, and the large glass of shiraz was £6. We’ll certainly be back.
