YHA Eyam

The setting is fantastic and peaceful, right by some good walks and The Peaks. The kitchen worked well for self catering, and the showers were clean. The private rooms are very small and have nowhere to store things. One toilet was out of order, leaving four rooms, up to eight people, to share a single toilet.

Two plugs for seven people, or ten at full capacity, is ridiculous. The food was mediocre too, and I was hungry again a couple of hours later. In the lights there were loads of flies, and there was mould on the ceiling and bedsheets, which were dirty as well. Getting here with luggage is a hassle: coaches can't reach the main parking lot, so there's a solid 5-10 minute walk to the YHA. The remote location is the only real perk, and even that was just OK.

The best part was leaving and going home. The food was edible but not enjoyable, and honestly the water was the best thing in the meal. We were ignored when we asked for another bin liner to keep the room tidy for the workers, even after practically shouting, so the service was terrible. There were stained pillows, dead flies in the lamp, a hole in the wall and ladybirds in several rooms. The rooms weren't particularly clean, and four sockets for six people isn't great. The area looks pretty if you get away from the roads and cars and walk far enough. Having to go up and down the hill every day because coaches can't get to the top was pretty naff.

You'll hear the other people around you, but that comes with staying in the heart of the Peak District, and the beautiful location is well worth considering. The rooms are basic but clean, the staff were all friendly and helpful, and breakfast was tasty. Fabulous setting.
