The food was lovely, and dogs are welcome, with free treats if you want them. Only two girls were working, one behind the bar and the other rushing around serving food and drinks. We felt sorry for them, as they didn’t stop all night. The main problem was the pool table noise. I’m not knocking the locals using it, business is business, but the language was too much for children’s ears. Luckily there were no children there, though the noise was loud and intrusive. The lads playing pool would certainly have given the atmosphere five stars.

We were three for dinner at the Roos Arms on Friday at 18:30, with a reservation made in advance. The pub and car park were packed when we arrived, so we had to park on the road. It was noisy with music and conversation, which was a pleasant surprise compared with pubs that feel empty and have no atmosphere. They hadn’t checked our reservation. Two of us arrived first and were shown to a table for two. When we explained the third person was coming, they moved us to a table in the back room and had to lay it for us. The waitress said it was busier than usual, which probably explains the slow service. Staff were polite and helpful when you could find one. The menu is basic, so don’t expect much choice. What we ordered was good, though the starters were better than the mains, and most of the main courses were fried. Near the end, the crowd had thinned and we got talking to Caroline, the landlady. She apologised for putting us in the back room, but that hadn’t bothered us. We finished in the main pub area with coffee by the fire. There are steps between the pub’s several levels, which could be an issue if you have mobility problems. I walk with a stick and struggled. We each had a soft drink, starter, main and coffee, and paid £28 each.

A friendly local with two well kept cask ales, great staff and fabulous food. We went for curry night, and the portions were big and delicious. Well worth a visit.

Bring your appetite, the portions are big! The steaks were cooked perfectly, and the mushrooms were amazing in both variety and flavour. Good food, a small but well kept beer selection and friendly service make this a great, interesting local.

We loved the meal and drinks, and the bar staff were super friendly. There was one very loud local man. The only letdown was how quickly the food came out. We’d just finished our starter and hadn’t had a chance to ask them to wait 15 minutes before the main arrived. We were in and out in less than 40 minutes after a two course meal.
