Crab Cottage

The cottage is lovely and well equipped, with a great coastal view from its raised back garden. There’s enough room out there to play fetch with the dog, and Rosie the housekeeper was attentive, helpful and quick to reply to texts. Inside, the kitchen has what you need, the gas central heating warms up quickly, and there’s a gas log-burner-style heater in the lounge. You also get lots of board games, a big LED TV with Chromecast, and a DVD player with plenty of discs. The bath has a good shower, which can be a weak point in places like this. There are loads of places to eat and drink just a few minutes away. I had one of the best curries I’ve ever eaten, Chicken Tikka Moricha at Tandoori Night. Parking takes some planning. You have to use a long-stay car park, with Marine Drive car park the nearest, then walk about five minutes to the cottage. Fore Street is very narrow by the steps, so loading or unloading blocks traffic behind you. The No Entry sign at the top keeps traffic on Fore Street fairly light, though. At night, people going between the High Street pubs and the Harbour can make the street noisy. There’s secondary double glazing in the main bedroom, but it doesn’t do much to cut the racket. The Freeview signal comes and goes, and broadband is often too slow for streaming. The smart TV has Netflix and Prime Video, and Chromecast can play content from your phone, but the connection may make that difficult. The DVDs and games came in handy. All in all, a very nice place to stay.
