From the door of Butterbrook Coach House, you can head straight onto Dartmoor, or cyclists can join the Puffing Billy trail on a mountain bike. The Tour of Britain route also runs nearby through this lovely area. Heather and David are friendly hosts and happy to offer tips on places to visit and things to do, or where to enjoy the peace and scenery. The cottage is cosy and beautifully finished, right at the southern edge of stunning Dartmoor National Park. Highly recommended.

The children’s favourite moment was meeting the hens whose eggs they had for tea, then watching David work Jess the sheepdog and seeing the huge, gentle Hereford bull. They’ll remember it for a long time. We also got to spend time with our little Devon grandchildren, who took us to their favourite beach, Mothercombe. Sadly, we just missed The Gruffalo, who they were sure lived in the woods on the path down to the beach. Being on a working farm in such a remarkable part of Dartmoor was special. The cottage was warm, spotless, comfortable and cosy, with beautiful design and a log burner with plenty of logs. A jug of fresh spring flowers and generous welcome treats made us feel at home from the start, and everything we needed was there. Heather and David were so kind and welcoming. The visitors’ book is full of happy stays and people wanting to return, and now we do too. Thanks for a really happy break.

A lovely cosy wood burner was just right to come back to after a winter walk. The traditional building has beautiful exposed granite and oak, and the location on the edge of Dartmoor is incredible. A very relaxing escape in a beautiful part of the country, highly recommended.

We’re heading home after a lovely long weekend at Butterbrook Coach House. It’s peaceful, with picturesque surroundings, and has everything you need for a great stay. We’d definitely recommend it.

We booked a weekend at short notice and were really impressed. The hosts, David and Heather, were fantastic, especially through these trying times. We’d highly recommend it.
