Craglands Guest House

We had a great time at the Craglands guest house and would happily stay again. Eldon was a friendly, welcoming host, and our room was clean and tidy. The location was good too. Make sure you try one of Eldon's breakfasts, they’re generous and really tasty, especially the sausage.

About a 15-minute walk from Keswick centre, with clean rooms and a clean house. The host was excellent. He likes things done a certain way, but it works. Breakfast was really nice, and I’d definitely stay again.

We arrived at 9 p.m. to find nobody at the entrance. The person in charge turned up much later and gave no explanation or even basic information about how things worked. We had to keep asking important questions about our stay. Instead of answering, he said in an exaggerated way, “Sorry, you are demanding too much, and this is not a hotel.” He then asked us to give the key back. Even if this isn’t a traditional hotel, I’d expect basic professionalism, respect, and human decency. The experience was truly disappointing. We trusted the positive reviews, but I honestly can’t understand how anyone could rate this place five stars. I’d say don’t be misled by them. The experience was terrible.

The parking was the one real downside. You have to reverse up the drive from a very busy main road. We stayed for three nights over Easter weekend and would come back. The hallway looked dated when we first arrived, but our room was great and very clean. Tea and coffee supplies were topped up daily, though the towels weren't changed. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of menu choices.
