Dinner was a highlight. The menu changed every night, and every meal was delicious, so we looked forward to it each evening. The wine list was excellent and very reasonably priced. From the complimentary afternoon tea to the cosy lounge fire and walks starting right from the hotel, it offered more than we expected. Our standard room was comfortable and nicely done, though we’ll upgrade next time. Staff were exceptionally welcoming, and there was a warm, social feel among the guests. A fantastic stay, and somewhere we’ll absolutely return to.

The whole place had a relaxed feel, and the staff were very friendly. We stayed two nights this week on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The dinner menu changed each night, and they were very accommodating about my dietary issue. The rooms were well designed.

We only stayed one night and wished we’d booked longer. The room was spacious, spotless and comfortable, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Nice touches included tea and coffee you could help yourself to whenever you liked, plus scones waiting when we came back cold from a walk. It was lovely to bring the dogs along. The food was fabulous, made with top quality ingredients and real attention to detail. You can tell they care about giving guests a great experience and don’t cut corners. It’s friendly, low-key and unstuffy. We’ll be back!

A drying room came in very handy after a thoroughly wet day, and it was nice to warm up in the bar before dinner. I had an excellent one-night stay during a four-night walking trip around the Lakes. The bedroom and bathroom were tastefully decorated with nice lighting. Breakfast had a good selection, and the porridge was great.

The breakfast was magnificent and fresh, and the packed lunch was generous, the best of our trip. I also really appreciated the clearly labelled menu as a coeliac. This hotel was a standout on our Coast to Coast walk. The countryside-inspired interior and rooms were immaculate, and the attention to guest comfort felt unique. Staff were observant and attentive. I wish them all the best, their care and diligence are unusual.
