Kingston Hotel

Parking was an added bonus, and for the price paid the accommodation was basic but good value. Still, the room needs an update. Everything felt dirty and was very dusty, and the service was pretty basic. Three lights were missing bulbs, including the bedside ones, so the room was very dark and it was difficult to get ready.

The room cost £90 for one night, room only, and I wish I'd paid a little more to stay somewhere clean, like a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn. It was dirty, and there was damp with peeling paint on the wall. The shower plug hole was disgusting, and there were black hairs in the sink. The bathroom door wouldn't close, and its handle was attached by two loose screws. One tug and it might have come off in my hands, possibly leaving me trapped inside. The room was tatty too, with chipped wood and a stained carpet. It was very hot, though at least a fan had been provided without me asking. I could say more, but the message is clear: don't book it, it's not worth it.

The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were clean. I paid extra for an en-suite room but was put in a basement room where I couldn't open the window or adjust the heating, so it got rather hot. The rooms are small, the furniture is old, and the place badly needs refurbishment. If you want relatively cheap accommodation just metres from Leeds University campus and don't expect much, you might like it.

The location was good, and the room was clean and spacious enough, but there were a few small annoyances. There was just one set of electric sockets, a long way from the bed, which isn't handy for charging a phone. WiFi barely reaches the top floor, so expect an intermittent connection up there. The hotel doesn't serve breakfast.
