Holiday Inn Express Liverpool - Knowsley M57,Jct.4

For £54, we couldn't have asked for much more for a one-night stay. Check-in was easy, and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, with spotless bedding and towels, and breakfast was included and more than adequate. We'd be happy to stay again when visiting family nearby. A couple of things could be better. The toilet bowl was quite stained when we arrived and looked like it needed a good clean with bleach. In the breakfast area, lots of guests weren't wearing masks despite the signs, and no hotel staff asked them to put one on.

The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was nice, though the bathroom could've been cleaner. There's no vent in there, so after a shower the whole room got steamy, which wasn't great for my hair in the humidity. Breakfast was okay, but there wasn't much choice, especially for vegetarians, and there weren't enough tables for everyone, though we found one. A road closure also made the hotel difficult to reach, and it would've helped to know about it in advance.

We had a spacious, very comfortable room, and the hotel was spotless. The staff were lovely too. Breakfast was great, even with a small selection, and our four-night break was exceptional. Drinks were the downside. One drink was enough for me because alcohol was the most expensive I've ever come across. The glass of wine was the dearest average wine I've had. I can't understand it when the rest of the services are good value.

We got a brilliant night's sleep, probably the best I've had in a hotel in forever, and we'll definitely be back. Our room was spacious, lovely, clean, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our friends in the adjoining room said their first room smelled of stale smoke, though you can't blame the hotel for people being too lazy to obey the law and smoke outside. We had to leave for work before breakfast service, but they let us sit down and eat anyway, which was lovely.
