Stanley Park Hotel

The smell of smoke was strong in both the stairwell and our room, and there was dust everywhere. The kettle still had old water in it, and a dead spider was hanging in a corner. The mattress was lumpy and springy. Wi-Fi only worked in the bathroom, where there was a large patch of mildew, possibly mold, on the ceiling. That was the last straw, but we stayed the night. My kid needed his inhalers, and the rest of us felt sick in the morning. We gave up our second prepaid night and found somewhere else. Fawlty Towers is a dream compared with this. I’d hoped to like the place because it’s close to Anfield and has a lot of history. I wasn’t expecting the Hilton, just local accommodation. The photos make it look much better than it is. Out front, there are eclectic items, including Blues Brothers statues chained and duct-taped to a second-floor ledge.

The staff were friendly, but both rooms we booked were dirty and hadn’t been cleaned properly. There were dirty cups in the sink and hair all around the shower. The mattress was the worst I’ve ever slept on.

A charming little hotel for a night before a football match at Anfield Stadium. Everything was clean and working, as long as you’re not expecting a three- or four-star place.

The bar lady was absolutely wonderful. The rest of the staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing. The rooms are far too basic, even for the price, and the location doesn’t make up for it. Absolute garbage.
