We had a great meal, from the squid and perfectly cooked Scallops to breakfast, and the locals were friendly. The location is lovely, the staff are nice, and the four poster bed was very comfy. Thursday steak night is a good deal, a huge T Bone steak and a free drink for £15. The piped 80s music wasn’t for me, but I still highly recommend it.

The place has the potential to be a great pub, which makes the food and service all the more disappointing. My first time there, the pastor of King pranws was amazing, but things have gone downhill. The food is overcooked, seems to rely too much on bought-in items, and gets thrown in a fryer or microwave. Drinks are always charging, and both staff and management were rude. The owner seems unable to take criticism; looking at the reviews and his replies, it’s never his fault. He needs to take a good look in the mirror. Such a shame. It shows that using mummy’s money and private investors doesn’t always work.

I stopped by The Kings Head Inn while I was in town and got a shady seat outside during the heatwave, which was a relief. It’s a traditional pub with beers, wines and spirits. Being Sunday, it was very busy, and the Sunday lunches looked popular with all the people eating there. I was enjoying a pint outside when one of the locals pulled up and took me for a spin in his 1938 Austin 7 Ruby. I’d highly recommend the pub to anyone visiting Llandovery.

Our room was huge, with really comfortable beds and a large bathroom, and the staff were fantastic throughout our three days. Susan deserves a special mention for being so bright and cheerful each morning, and thanks to John for looking after our van. We stayed three nights over Xmas and felt welcome from the moment we arrived. The publican had decorated the pub beautifully for xmas, on top of an already lovely interior, and all the live music acts were excellent. The care shown to the staff is commendable, and it’s the most dog friendly pub we’ve ever visited. We’re permanent travellers, and this has quickly become our favourite stop in Wales. We’ll definitely be back.
