The Moorland Hotel

There’s a comfortable bar with sofas and a huge TV for sport. I could happily have spent the morning reading there. My room had a great view of the Moors, and the hotel’s location is amazing. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the food was superb. I enjoyed my stay and liked everything about the hotel. Looking forward to going back, 10/10.

Sudeep, Sunil and Madan have looked after us so well. Every member of staff has been the best we’ve ever had at any hotel, and nothing is too much trouble, housekeeping included. The food is freshly made from scratch, delicious and very reasonably priced. We’ve been staying here while structural work is done at our own home, and we’ll definitely return for Sunday roast and Wednesday Curry night. The views across Plymouth Sound are amazing, the location is great, and there’s free Wi-Fi and parking. It’s about 15 minutes to the A38 and 20 minutes to Plymouth city centre. Thank you all for taking such good care of us, Sean and Celia :)

The room was clean and practical, with good views towards Plymouth or the moors. Dogs are welcome throughout the hotel, which is great. Breakfast and dinner were both good and reasonably priced, though we didn’t get to try lunch. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. We’ll definitely visit again.

Tea and coffee were provided in good quantities, but the rest of our stay was disappointing. We were in room 13 and had been looking forward to using the jetted bath shown in the photos. It didn’t work. We’d paid a premium for what was basically a standard room, so we raised it with management. Sudeep wasn’t willing to offer a goodwill gesture or partial refund. I said the website photo was misleading without a note that the bath didn’t work, but he said it wasn’t misleading and showed no empathy. The building and room felt old fashioned, there was no lift, just a flight of stairs, and the toilet rails were rusty. There was mould on the room and toilet ceilings, the carpet was dirty, and no slippers were provided. The room was cold, with the wind audible against what seemed to be a single-glazed window. There was no drinking water, and the sink only had cold water. I definitely wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it.
