The Golden Lion Inn

The inn has a lovely, unusual layout and is beautifully decorated. There’s a cosy beer garden at the back, beyond the car park, and you can pay by card. Even with a reduced menu, there was plenty to choose from and the food was delicious. The owners were thoughtful and went out of their way to make our visit better, including suggesting walks for me and my partner nearby. We found it while staying at a local glamping site, and enjoyed the reading material and board and party games for groups. We’ll definitely come back if we’re in the area.

The welcome and hospitality were about as good as they get, but the accommodation let it down. There are two rooms, both described as doubles, yet the online photos didn’t look anything like ours. Ours had only about 10 feet by 10 feet of floor space, not counting the ensuite. There was no wardrobe or place to hang clothes, and barely any drawer space. Calling it a double goes beyond what I’d consider acceptable.

We stopped here on a cycling trip and they took good care of all of us. The food was great, and they kindly let us use the first aid box. Such considerate, kind people, a real credit to the area.

Such a peaceful stay out in the country. The owners were lovely and made me feel at home, and the food was lovely too. I’ll 100% be going back.
