Gem Fitzrovia Hotel

I stayed for a week in January 2026 and would happily return if I came back to London. It's an easy walk to several tube lines and places like the British Library and British Museum, but the area feels much less touristy. The room was quiet. A couple of mornings I heard a baby when I stepped into the hall, but hadn't heard anything from inside. The bed was quite hard, so keep that in mind if you don't like a firm mattress. I got used to it after a couple of nights. The room and washroom were a reasonable size, and the shower had good pressure from both the overhead and handheld heads. Staff I met at reception, breakfast, and housekeeping were all professional and helpful. Breakfast had a decent range, including eggs, bread, cheese, fruit, and meat, though it wasn't anything special. The coffee was drinkable, not great, and there were plenty of shops nearby where I could get another.

We missed having a second chair in the double room. Still, it was a nice place for a quiet, relaxed London trip, and the road was calm enough to leave the window open at night. We had a good stay, and the service was very kind, especially Niloka in the breakfast room.

The room was comfortable and clean, and the atmosphere was quiet enough for a good night's rest. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay at the Gem Fitzrovia Hotel, which is well located. The hotel does feel a bit dated, though. Some parts could do with a refresh for the price. Nothing major, but the age of the building and decor shows. A modern update would make a big difference to an otherwise decent stay with good service.

The front desk couldn't handle even simple issues. Requests never got acted on, and the staff seemed to have no authority to resolve problems. The rooms were grimy and didn't look like the ones shown online. It feels like all the money went into the lobby furniture and wall decor to attract guests. The gap between the photos on booking platforms and what you actually get at the Gem Fitzrovia is huge. To me, that's misleading, dishonest advertising. Save your money and find a more reliable, honest hotel.
