Guild Hotel Marble Arch

The area was one of the nicest we visited in London, with Selfridges mall and Hyde Park close by. We booked two rooms for four people and a toddler. One was great, on the first floor with a crib ready, but the other was too cramped for our luggage. Staff moved us to a different room. The Nespresso machine in each room made good coffee for free. The A/C wasn't very effective, though the April weather meant we could sleep with the window open. Getting the toddler to bed early was tricky because light through the frosted-glass bathroom door brightened the whole room.

The location is hard to beat, right by Oxford Street and Marble Arch, and I was surprised to find a room so cheaply in the heart of the city. The room was immaculate and quiet, which is impressive given how close it is to the busy area. Staff had put in an extra heater for the cold February weather, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The room was a little small, as is common in London, and getting into the shower took some maneuvering. Breakfast was okay, with very attentive staff. I'd stay again.

The location is great, but the rooms are like shoe boxes and not worth the price. Maintenance was poor, and we had to switch rooms three times. The air-conditioning failed in two rooms, and a broken portable unit was put in one of them. The lift also didn't work about half the time. I wouldn't stay here again, even if they paid me.

We booked 10 rooms, but after seeing them, 7 people decided not to stay overnight. The rooms were small, the bathrooms even smaller, and the aircon didn't work. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable, though. I usually stay at Radisson blu bond street, which is great.
