OYO Townhouse New England Victoria

For central London, I haven't found anything better value. The location is great, near Victoria station and not dodgy, and the bed was clean with an en suite. It was small, but this is a cheap and cheerful place, like the other OYOs I've stayed in. Reception stays open late, so you don't need to warn them if you're delayed or deal with an entry code. The receptionist was organized and professional. I was surprised there wasn't a kettle in the room. If I came back, I'd buy a can of cold coffee beforehand for the morning. It's not a big problem, and I'd stay again.

The location was ideal for the wedding venues, just a short walk away. That's the only positive I can think of from our two-night stay. The staff were okay, but were rarely at the desk, and things throughout the hotel were broken, damaged, or didn't work. The toilet floor was soaking when I checked in. Water was leaking through the bathroom tiles and had discoloured the floor and trim, and the radiator was leaking too. The shower head was rusted and covered in limescale. At the top of the stairs, the banister was held together with sellotape and moved when you held it, exposing screws. It was incredibly dangerous. Cleaning staff left dirty laundry and rubbish blocking the corridors. When we left our room, they watched us climb around it and didn't move anything or help. I also couldn't get the door mechanism to work and had to ask staff to let me in. When they asked my room number, they said there was a known issue with room 22's door, but they'd still checked me in there. The key fobs for the outside doors didn't work either. We had to wait for staff to let us back in whenever we went out, but the desk was often empty. I'm not a fussy traveller and don't need much, but this was the worst value for money I've had for accommodation.

Most attractions are within walking distance, and Victoria station is only about 10 minutes away on foot. Great value for money.

We paid £600 for a room for three, and it was horribly dirty. The sheets were stained, as the photos show, and the bathroom was disgusting. The shower was full of dirt and unidentified things, also shown in the photos, and there was mold on every wall. The TV and the light didn't work. Everything was dirty and revolting.
