The Selwyn Hotel

I want a refund as soon as possible. A member of staff opened my room while I was asleep, then said, “Oh, sorry.” I was naked in bed, and he had no idea the room was occupied. This happened in Room 11. Please check the cameras. I arrived yesterday at around 10.30pm. I had booked through booking.com, but accidentally booked for the 31st. The Indian receptionist said I'd have to pay again to stay that day, so I paid £50. The heater in my room didn't work, so he brought me an electric one. The kettle didn't work either. He took me to the kitchen, which I found messy and dirty. The toilet and shower are outside the room, which made the stay disappointing and uncomfortable. I want a refund for 22nd May and 31st of May. I paid £110 in total.

The room was filthy, far worse than the basic standard I expected for the price. There was no way my daughter and I were going to stay there. I didn't ask for a refund because the reviews made it seem unlikely I'd get one, and I didn't want more unpleasantness during what was meant to be a nice weekend. My car was already in the car park, so we booked a much nicer hotel around the corner. Avoid this place at all costs.

We couldn't sleep because the bed was so cheap and uncomfortable, with springs everywhere and lumpy pillows. Women outside the front of the hotel screamed and shouted all night, and the bedding and towels smelled damp. We had a so-called deluxe room, but left in the early hours rather than stay in that bed, which felt like a medieval rack. The scene outside sounded like the cast of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest howling at night. The owners should contact me to arrange a refund. We'll see if that happens, and I'll update this if I hear anything. We were there for Rugby World Cup weekend and had expected to park, but there were no spaces. The room was shabby too, with limescale on the taps and shower and mould on the shower curtain. After trying to sleep in the worst bed ever, we felt as if we'd played in England's front row. This hotel is the worst I've stayed in, and it was a waste of money. What a dump.

Richmond is easy to get to from here, and the location is great. But the place is very run down. The shower was almost impossible to use: either a cold shower or a flooded bathroom. The room smelled musty, with a faint hint of incense, and the windows wouldn't stay shut. I've stayed here three times over the last two years, but won't come back. The owners need to invest in a major refresh.
