The bathroom light switches on with motion, which is unpleasant in the middle of the night. Also, some of the shared spaces for students aren’t open to short-stay guests, so check with the property first if a kitchen or gym matters to you. For budget accommodation in this part of London, Wick Park would be my first pick. It’s good value, about a 10-minute walk from Hackney Wick tube station, with plenty of bars, restaurants and small supermarkets close by. The building and room matched the description and photos, and both the room and bathroom were spotless, with modern equipment. They supplied towels, shower gel, hand soap and toilet paper, a welcome extra at this price. Card-key access throughout made the place feel safe. The staff I met were friendly and efficient, and after booking the property kept in touch, answered requests and sent clear, detailed check-in instructions, so arrival went smoothly.

Really good room for relaxing or working remotely. It’s a shame there isn’t a mini fridge, but I was happy with it anyway. The area is great too. I’m looking forward to staying here again.

The kitchen area guests are allowed to use was full of rubbish, and the fridge had spoiled food in it. I can’t imagine cooking there without risking getting sick. I don’t know whether it’s worse that people know about this and ignore it, or that nobody knows. The corridors were dusty too. Someone staying nearby told me it’s always like that, and that she only heats things there and even does her dishes in her sink. Please get this sorted immediately. Checking in was fine, though nobody showed me around. They just gave me my room number, which I could understand if they’re understaffed. The room didn’t look dirty, but it wasn’t properly clean either. There were hairs in the shower. I spoke to the receptionist, who said I’d rented through Londonist and should contact them because their rooms weren’t under the building’s control. That sounded like a way of saying it wasn’t her problem. This is your building, and they’re damaging your property. Why should I have to sort this out? Why aren’t you speaking with them? If they can’t manage your property, you could fine them, and they could fine students who don’t know how to behave like adults.

A new student residence with a creative design and a calming feel, Wick Park is within walking distance of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Olivia, Taylor, Reece, Uma, Shreyansh and Alpha are approachable and respectful, and respond quickly when help is needed. The team has a friendly, positive way of working together.

The thing that made Wick Park special for our daughter’s first year at LCF was the team. We met Taylor on our first tour, and she and her colleagues went out of their way to help us whenever we needed it over the past year. Having someone listen and help while you’re arranging things from outside the UK made a real difference. Thank you all, and keep it up. The complex is purpose-built for students, with wifi, air conditioning, ensuite showers and bathrooms, and a kitchen shared by the eight people in each corridor. The common spaces are excellent: workstations, places to relax, a mini cinema for around 30 people, a gym and private group-study rooms. There’s free coffee all day when the machine is working, and personalised key cards add security. I especially liked the central patio and barbecue area for student-organised events. The Parcel Room was also very useful. Amazon could leave deliveries there, then you’d get an electronic message with a one-time code to collect them. We used it often. LCF is just a 15-minute walk away, which made this an ideal start for our daughter.
