The countryside setting is breathtaking, peaceful and picturesque, a proper chance to get away. We loved the nearby walking routes, and the amenities were plenty for a few days. The cabin was thoughtfully designed and beautifully finished, with an incredible view from our room. The bed and gorgeous linen made for restful nights. We also liked the sustainable products, they smelled amazing, and it was nice to be able to buy them. Even though the place is meant to help you switch off, we had enough phone signal to call if needed, which was reassuring for emergencies. A couple of things did take away from the stay. In bad weather, getting to the cabin could be difficult and maybe unsafe, so a clearer or more secure path would help. There were dog hairs by the windows and on the rug when we arrived. The outdoor tub had no running water until our last night, which was disappointing given how central it is to the experience. We raised it, but communication was slow and it wasn't sorted quickly. We still had a lovely, memorable break and would recommend Rest + Wild. With a few small improvements, it could be perfect.
Waking up to that gorgeous view was the highlight, and we loved exploring the local villages. We even spotted hares and barn owls as well as the cows and sheep. The room was cosy and relaxing, with books, games, marshmallows and lovely luxury shower products. It was great to see how sustainable everything was. The shower was warm and nice, but the water wasn't hot enough for the outdoor bath, which was a shame. In winter the path to the cabin was pitch black even at 4pm, though using our torches made it easy enough to find our way.
The cabin was clean, well equipped, and had plenty of storage under the bed to keep our things out of the way. The log burner kept it cosy and warm, and the welcome pack came in handy. We had no issues during our New Year's Eve break in Shropshire. It was the perfect place to switch off, reflect and see in the new year. We'll definitely come back.
We had everything needed for cooking, and the shower was great. Exmoor is lovely, with trails for hiking and running, little villages with pubs, and coastal paths if you fancy heading to the sea. The cabin is remote, secluded and cosy, with stunning views. One tip: don't bring too much stuff. Space is limited, and the walk to and from the car is quite a trek, which is part of the appeal anyway.
We spent a January weekend in the Nightingale cabin with our two dogs, who eventually stopped barking at the sheep and settled into watching them. The cabin felt cosy and comfortable rather than cramped, even though we're used to the small space in our old campervan. The hob handled pasta, stir-fry and breakfast without trouble, and the log burner was essential at first, then kept the place warm really well. We expected no connection to the outside world, but phone signal was fine when needed, and we downloaded a film for the iPad. We ate, drank, read and rested. The bed, fit-out and amenities were all high quality, with great attention to detail. The host checked that we were okay just the right amount, without being over-friendly. We absolutely loved our idyllic weekend. Well done Rest and Wild.
