Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf And Spa

The only real snag was room service. I called several times without reaching anyone, so eventually I had to find a member of staff in person just to get cutlery. It barely dented what was otherwise a wonderful stay at Luton Hoo Hotel and Golf Course. The grounds were immaculate, the architecture timeless, and the whole estate had a quiet luxury to it. Meals were beautifully presented, the drinks were superb, especially the Piña Coladas and champagne. I look forward to coming back. Luton Hoo is a remarkable retreat.

The historical rooms, the venue itself, and its staff were all very good. We stayed overnight at the Luton Hoo Hotel, and the spa and grounds were nice too. The food place inside the venue, though, was horrible. I wouldn't bother going there, it was really that bad. I've written a detailed review on our blog, Life with Jupiter and Dann.

I've been here several times for afternoon tea, dinner, an overnight stay, and pigeon clay shooting with breakfast and lunch. The service was great each time, and the staff were brilliant. For my dad's 60th, the lovely woman at lunch sang to him and brought out a beautiful plate with a complimentary cake and message. It was such a sweet surprise, and he had a memorable birthday. That was two years ago. Fantastic hotel, location, and service.

We chose to return to Luton Hoo because last year they had been so accommodating with our dog. They'd even set a proper dining table for us in the main hall so we could enjoy breakfast together. This visit was the complete opposite. When we asked for the same arrangement, the manager was rude and dismissive, saying they couldn't accommodate us. I explained it had been done before, but he said it was a mistake and walked away. We ended up balancing plates on our knees on sofas beside a door that kept opening. When we asked again, staff just said the manager had already spoken to us, and he refused to come back out. It was embarrassing and uncomfortable, nothing like the hospitality you'd expect from a 5-star hotel. Guests shouldn't be treated like a nuisance when the hotel advertises itself as dog-friendly. We felt really unwelcome. It's a lovely hotel, which makes it such a shame, but it isn't dog-friendly and we won't return.
