The Walhampton Arms

The food was generous and very good, so I’ve no complaint about that. The service, though, was uncomfortable from the start. The young man who greeted us seemed fed up, and his manner stayed just as cold when I ordered drinks and later came back in to order our meals. Cutlery and napkins were dropped on the table, with no offer of sauces or vinegar. When he brought the food and cleared some glasses, he tossed the last of one glass up the wall of the archway as he passed. We’d driven by Walhampton Arms plenty of times and stopped on a sunny day around 6pm, when it was still quiet. I didn’t catch his name, but heard someone introduce him to another customer as the manager. I hope he was having an off day, because that attitude and lack of people skills don’t fit a hospitality manager.

The breakfast was delicious, and the service was really helpful. It’s only a five-minute drive to Lymington, so the location worked well for us. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, with lovely original features and tasteful decor. We slept well in the comfy beds and would happily recommend it.

They really looked after our birthday lunch group and were happy to accommodate us. The food and service were brilliant. Everyone left very happy!

Grant and his colleague were wonderful with our group of twelve, and nothing seemed too much trouble. We’d chosen the pub for a family 60th birthday lunch, and the food arrived hot and was tasty and lovely. Highly recommended.
