I enjoyed my stay overall, and the breakfast choices were fresh and high-quality. My courtyard room was comfortable, quiet, well equipped and good value for money. The staff are the foundation of the hotel, genuinely friendly and always willing to help. The spacious main restaurant was comfortable, but I didn't find the menu very inspiring. The wine choices varied, and some were excellent. The Dartmoor venison was cooked perfectly, but then smothered in burnt leeks and mushrooms, so the chef seemed to have left the presentation as an afterthought. I was disappointed by the spa, which I believe is overbooked with spa days and club members. That could be a challenge for anyone looking for the peace and serenity of a five star spa. I would recommend the hotel, but management seem to be selling the space and facilities to non-resident clients at the expense of in-house guests. Something to keep a close eye on. We stayed two nights.

My partner and I have been having Sunday lunch here for months, and every visit has been flawless. We still get excited whenever we book, even after more visits than we can count. The food and cocktails are consistently outstanding, and the staff are always incredible. It's lovely to have become familiar faces. We honestly can't recommend it enough.

We'd heard good things and went for lunch with two friends. The setting is beautiful, but I can't recommend the place. Our meal was adequate at best, the staff seemed aloof and unfriendly, and the menu was limited. The waiter sneered at my friend, and the spaghetti I ordered was bland and looked as if it had just been thrown into the bowl. I felt looked down on, perhaps because we don't speak with home counties accents or wear designer gear. Our money is as good as anyone else's, especially when you're paying £17 for an Aperol spritz. While we waited for our taxi, which took ages because they are in chronic short supply around this area, we were interrogated by the bulldog on the door, who had been fawning over other guests. When my friend brought up her issues with the food, she pointed at the taxi and said, 'your friends are waiting'.

Cosy fires throughout the hotel and the chance to hire a DVD for the room, a real blast from the past, were lovely touches. It was a memorable, luxurious countryside stay, with top facilities and high-quality seasonal food and drink. The team at Limewood were attentive and friendly, and made me feel at home. I was lucky to have the opportunity to stay at this beautiful hotel. Thanks again for the hospitality!
