The Bakehouse

The quiet suburban street was restful, yet Maidenhead, a supermarket and two pubs were all an easy walk away. I ate in and loved Laurent’s delicious meals in the peaceful garden. As a woman travelling alone, I felt completely safe and well cared for. Laurent was courteous, caring and professional, and went far beyond what I expected to make the stay wonderful. The Bakehouse was spotless, the bed was wonderful, and the linen and towels were top notch. It’s outstanding value for the reasonable price. I’ve travelled a lot and stayed in many places, and I can’t recommend Laurent highly enough. This place is a gem if you want a personal touch.

Breakfast in the farmhouse-style kitchen was a lovely touch, with the table set and little name cards for guests. Laurent’s scrambled eggs are well worth having, and we had a pleasant chat before I set off. He was also generous when I mentioned I might need another night, suggesting other accommodation for my colleague after they’d booked the local Holiday Inn, which I thought was a rip off. I couldn’t confirm our plans until that evening, and I’d reserved the last room. From my first call, Laurent was helpful and accommodating. The house was warm, and after a long day I slept superbly in the comfortable bed. My room was homely, nicely decorated and had everything I needed for one night. The bathroom was spacious, bright, clean and tidy. It was shared by three of us in my part of the house, but that wasn’t a problem. There’s a small off-street parking area, and the location is excellent, with a short drive into town and plenty of places to eat. I wished I’d ordered supper when I smelled what was cooking in his oven. I can’t recommend Laurent and The Bakehouse highly enough.

I stayed at the Bakehouse for 10 days, and it really felt like home. Laurent is welcoming, and the whole place has a friendly, cosy atmosphere. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, with comfortable beds, and the quiet neighbourhood is within walking distance of the town centre. Laurent freshly prepared breakfast every day, and you could also have an evening meal if you wanted. He’s a very good cook, and I enjoyed the homemade food. I’d definitely come back. Laurent takes time to chat about your interests and keeps the conversation going with plenty of jokes. The food is lovingly made, and the rooms are clean, warm and tidy in a quiet location. I stayed for two weeks and will miss his company. Lovely lodgings and a wonderful host. I’ll book again if I’m in the area.
