The Lord Grenfell

We stopped in for Sunday roast before the cinema. It’s close to town, with parking available, and the service was really friendly. The roasts were delicious and generously portioned. Inside, it felt cosy, with nice ambient lighting.

The food was okay, but nothing special, and with the service charge it felt overpriced to me. I also found out that a 12.5% charge had been added to every order, which came to about £15.00 for our group. I used to work in hospitality, so I know staffing costs are already built into food prices. There were five adults and one child in our party. The menu was so extensive that choosing took a while, and then one person's selection wasn't available, so we ended up ordering just five meals. We paid and later worked out what we'd spent on food and drinks. I think we'll avoid this place next time we visit family.

The Sharing Roast is a good option if you're hungry, though save some room for pudding. We had a family birthday catch-up over Sunday lunch and booking online was easy. There was a decent range of dishes, tasty food, good beers and a substantial wine list. The atmosphere was lovely, and the team looked after us without hovering, but were there whenever we needed them. A real gem of a pub.

The manager was very easy on the eye, which was a nice bonus! More than that, the staff were welcoming and attentive all the way through, and the Sunday lunch was spot on. Such a lovely experience. I'd happily recommend it and will definitely be back.
