The Crown Inn

The evening meal was better than I expected from pub food, more like restaurant cooking, and Clare, the manager on duty, couldn’t do enough for us. The village pub was lively, full of characters, and made me feel welcome. Kat was friendly behind the bar and told me about the pub’s history, including its connections to Dr Who and the WW2 band of brothers. I slept well with very little noise from downstairs. We’d booked this 17th-century pub through booking.com an hour before arriving. Donna checked us in and explained the key and night door setup. I enjoyed an afternoon beer, a plumb porter for £5.30. Breakfast was perfect, with proper butcher’s sausages and quality bacon, plus tea, coffee, juice, cereal and yogurt. Sharon served us. We’ll be back next year. I’ve named the staff so the manager knows what a great job they do.

A great little pub in a perfect spot, with a good selection of cask ales and a very good menu. It’s dog friendly, and everyone is friendly too. It’s also worth a visit for its history as the HQ of Easy Company, 101st Airborne troops, made famous in the file 'Band of Brothers'.

My sister had the best 50th, and the 30 of us all had a brilliant evening. We booked the whole restaurant at The Crown for her birthday meal and party. The food was delicious, the portions generous, and every pre-booked order came out together without a single issue. The staff worked really hard and couldn’t have been more helpful. We’ll definitely book future family parties here.

The food was fantastic, and breakfast the next morning was just as good. I had a thin-crust pizza that was big enough to be a meal on its own, plus a huge portion of skinny chips. Either would probably have been enough, but both tasted so good I polished them off and was happily stuffed. Next time I’ll stick to one main and save room for dessert. The room was warm and clean, the bed comfy, and I slept really well. I’ll likely be in the area again next year and hope to stay here.
