I wasn’t sure what to order, so they showed me both the regular and lite bites menus. There was a good variety, with options to suit everyone, and I settled on the salmon. It was a good size and beautifully cooked. The venue was lovely, the staff attentive, and I was happy to see Poltergeist on tap among the great bar selection.

I’ve eaten at the Tavern before and the food has always been good, with friendly staff. But last night was disappointing. My friend and I each ordered fish and chips for £18.50, expecting a large fish. The fish was small. The server acknowledged that and gave us extra chips; when we were asked if everything was okay, we raised the size. At payment, the bar lady explained that the supplier had only delivered small fish. There was no discount or even a free drink offered. I don’t mind paying for good food, but this didn’t feel worth the money, and we both felt short changed.

The burger was delicious, and the chips were very good. The sausages were excellent too, though the mash was a bit overprocessed and the veg seemed to have been sitting around for a while. Staff were friendly, but service was a little slow. Still, we had a very pleasant meal.

We booked at the last minute after spontaneously deciding on a night away, and it turned out to be a lovely find at a great price in a great area. The room was good, the shower pressure was great and the bed very comfortable. The lady who checked us in and poured our pints was lovely and friendly, and the pub itself was nice and cosy. I’d definitely recommend it. Thanks for having us :)
