I stopped in for a coffee and got such a friendly welcome from Sarah. She was attentive, engaging and knew her stuff, even sharing tips about nearby places connected to Burns, and there are loads. The coffee was very nice, with plenty of menu options at what seemed like reasonable prices. It’s a historic old building, and although I didn’t stay or see the rooms, the foyer, reception area, bar, restaurant and toilets were all spotless. I also had a little walk around the beer garden. It was laid out nicely with lots of seating and plenty of foliage, even in February. I loved the Fairburn Hotel in Mauchline, which feels very much part of Robert Burns History. Sarah was a great ambassador for the hotel. Super place, and I’ll definitely be back and recommend it to others.

We dropped in for dinner on a quiet Monday, when the restaurant was closed, but they were serving in the bar. Our server was working alone and was so lovely and attentive. There were loads of tempting menu choices, and the food was delicious with massive portions. Thanks so much!

We stayed at the hotel as a B&B while in town for a local event. The room was comfortable, and the bed especially so. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was excellent. It’s an easy walk to the Robert Burns memorial just around the corner, and there’s a car park. I’d recommend it.

The staff were lovely and friendly, which made the stay a shame to review. The rooms were okay, but the carpets were heavily stained and should be replaced with wooden floors. Breakfast was a disaster for me: I found four hairs in my porridge, which was a stiff lump on the plate, and there was a fly cooked onto my egg. The stairway up to the rooms smelled like someone had smoked 100 fags in there. Some plug-in air fresheners or something might help.

There were plenty of gluten-free options on the main menu. We ate as a large group, and the food looked lovely and tasted delicious. They had a festive menu alongside the regular one.
