Avoca Hotel

We were welcomed by friendly staff, and the place had a really cool vibe. For £149, I was surprised to find that a two-course meal and breakfast were included. I had the steak and my partner had pizza, and we both enjoyed our food. The room was clean, warm and lovely, with the sea view we’d requested for my partner’s birthday. The lighting was a little dull, and the left-hand lamp in room 203 was broken, though it wasn’t a major issue. Aside from that, we had a superb stay and will definitely be back. Thank you!

We paid £250 per night for a Family Room, expecting the sea-view room shown on Booking.com. Since I was travelling with children, the view mattered to us. Instead, we were given a room facing a neighbouring building, and we later found that the window also looked onto a nearby pub. It was noisy there, and we couldn’t get proper sleep with the kids. I wouldn’t recommend this for families with young children if being able to rest comfortably is important.

The food was great, and the service was friendly and professional. Our room was spacious and very clean, with beautiful views. Everything is close by, and parking is just a minute’s walk away. I’d definitely return next time I’m in Newcastle.

We were staying elsewhere but fancied a meal at the hotel, so I can only speak about the restaurant. The hotel looks amazing, and I’m sure the rooms are great, but the food and service weren’t. Service was poor and slow. My partner’s steak was very tasty, but my chicken was bland and seemed to have come from a supplier and been taken out of the deep freeze to cook. It was no better than something from a supermarket.
