We had a delicious vegetarian paella, served with warm bread and salad. Tomas is a wonderful host and chef, and the food here is fantastic. This pub is right in the heart of Newcastleton. It’s worth calling ahead or dropping in to book so Tomas can tell you what he can make especially for you.

We’d happily stay here again. We were three people on a cycling holiday, and Tom, the manager, was brilliant company and a good cook. The rooms were clean, if a little dated, and everything was reasonably priced. There’s also secure bicycle storage.

There are some very good walks nearby, which makes this a great place to stay. Thomas made us feel really welcome, and he’s an excellent cook. Breakfast was great too. The rooms are a little tired, but they were clean and warm.

Newcastleton is an unspoilt village, with lovely riverside walks and a worthwhile hill walk for anyone feeling energetic. If you have your own transport, there are lots of interesting places to visit, though the surrounding hills are especially peaceful and wild. The hotel is compact, and my bedroom was clean with a very comfortable bed. Tomasz, the manager, went out of his way to help, and he and Alex were unbelievably friendly. His cooking was excellent and plentiful.

We spent five nights in Newcastleton and took our dog to the Liddesdale hotel each day for a few drinks. The locals in the bar were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Thomas, the chef, suggested the Moroccan spicy beef, and it was absolutely superb.
