Marlborough Hotel

At £80 a night, this was fab value. I’m in Norwich regularly and won’t use Travelodge again. The room felt cosy, was spotless, brand new and smart, with a bath and loads of space. It’s about five minutes from the actual city centre, not way out with another 20-minute walk ahead of you. Check-in took two minutes: a smartly dressed young woman was waiting with our key and showed us to the room. I’ll be honest, from outside it looked like any other city B&B, and I only stayed two nights. For my next choice, Holiday Inn is £170 a night.

There was no heating in our room. On a Saturday evening, we were told nobody was working who could help, so all they could offer was a small portable heater. We checked out after one night. There was a rock by the car and the windshield had been smashed. When we asked to see the CCTV, we first heard that the camera had been out for maintenance for a few days, then that it had never worked. Staff kept saying they weren’t responsible for anything and were extremely rude.

A lovely room and helpful staff, in a small hotel fairly close to the city centre. Parking could be a problem. For an overnight break, it’s worth a look.

The cleaners talked loudly outside our room for hours in the morning, so a relaxing stay was out of the question. At checkout, staff got aggravated and hot-headed over a misunderstanding about the time, which wasn’t our fault. Their threatening behaviour ruined the day, and we nearly had to call the police. Communication in English was poor, and the whole place felt unprofessional. We’d strongly advise people to avoid this hotel.
