Other than this room problem, it's a decent hotel with a few spacious function rooms. They put me and my two kids in a room where the window kept banging, and the view was just a rooftop covered in pigeons. I complained several times, but the woman initially refused to move us. I couldn't sleep for three days, and by the third day I was emotionally drained and had had enough. A foothold support worker reminded them I was a paying customer, and they had to move me. The new room was even better, and we finally got two nights of sleep. Before anyone comments, a staff member had already said they knew about the problem before putting us in that room.

We had a nice, quiet stay in room 213, and the en-suite bathtub was a plus. The decor feels a bit dated, but it was good value, and I'd stay again. The location is great if you want easy access to the city centre.

For Rock City, the theatres and nightclubs, the location is handy. The hotel looks a little tired, though the staff were really nice and our large room was clean and tidy. It could use an update. My main issue was the traffic noise. The hotel is between two busy roads, with another road across the front, and the secondary glazing didn't help much. Traffic roared past day and night because the soundproofing is poor. Bring earplugs if the convenient location and price matter more to you than a quiet night.

For a cheap Nottingham stay, The Strathdon Hotel is a good choice. It's central, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the room had everything I needed and was comfortable. The accommodation isn't top standard for the price, though, and the place could use some attention and upgrades. Breakfast was quite good, but the B&B rate is the better deal since buying breakfast separately costs a lot for what you get. The lift stopped working while I was there, but staff were happy to take guests up and down in the service lift.

The room had free WiFi, a kettle, tea, coffee, biscuits and milk, and the reception staff were really friendly and helpful. It’s a good budget pick for a couple of days, with a nice-looking, fairly clean hotel. Just be aware the lift is tiny. If you’re claustrophobic, take the stairs.
