The bed was comfortable and the bedding clean, but the bedroom carpet had stains. In the bathroom, the toilet lid had come off, and the ceiling needed a better paint job. It doesn’t seem to be black mould, and the bathroom only needs a small update. A load of washing cost £15.

We chose this place because it welcomes pets, though ours ended up staying home. He would have loved it. The location was perfect, everything was spotless, and the bed was so comfortable that I slept better than I have in ages. Continental breakfast was included, but we went next door for a proper English fry-up instead. Great service and all the usual hotel amenities.

We had to change rooms because the TV in the first one didn’t work. The next room smelled strongly of mould and made me physically ill. It also clearly seemed to have had pets in it before, which is a problem because I’m highly allergic, so I had to go out and buy antihistamines. The rooms are as basic as they come, all white with no art, and the bathroom floor felt soft under the tiles. The shower had no hot water. The room was extremely hot, and we couldn’t open the windows. They provided a fan, but it was still hot. Breakfast was very basic, just cold cereal, toast, coffee, tea and juice. When we reported the cold shower, the women at reception only said, “Sorry.” I wasn’t a fan and wouldn’t recommend this place.

For the price, the hotel was lovely, with comfortable beds. There’s a restaurant next door for dinner and drinks, and a basic breakfast is included.
