This is my third visit this year, and I’ll be coming back more often. I only found Oban again in the past year, after visiting some years ago with a good friend who has since passed away. I came back to see what we’d missed back then, when we were off work and just wanted to have a good time, relax, and enjoy ourselves. I’m back in Oban in his memory, staying until Wednesday. The mutha queen is clean, comfortable, and cosy. Oban is also a great place to eat out, with plenty of good places to visit and reviews to check. Just avoid the kebab grillz at the start of the street by Morrisons. I ordered a chicken tikka kebab and watched them microwave the chicken. Absolutely atrocious, and the server had a terrible attitude when he realized I’d seen it. Apart from that, I LOVE OBAN WITH A PASSION.

It’s a lovely old hotel, and I had a terrific view of Oban Harbour. My room was comfortable and very clean. Fresh towels and tea and coffee were brought daily, which was nice though I didn’t need the towels replaced. The young man at Reception who helped me a few times was wonderful.

There was no disabled access, and two of the three room windows wouldn’t open, which felt like a safety issue. The rooms were big, but the restaurant was freezing when we brought food in, and it wasn’t open anyway. There was no bar, which hadn’t been mentioned when booking. There were no staff at check-out.

It’s about a 15-minute walk into town, and the room was adequate. Service was great. Vanessa was very accommodating with all my questions about laundry and internet service.

It’s okay, that’s about it. The place is very tired, and there aren’t any restaurant facilities in the building, though it looks like there used to be. For breakfast and dinner you have to walk five minutes to the other Muthu hotel, and to be honest, that’s not really worth the walk. I was here for a work visit. If I’d been staying for pleasure, I probably wouldn’t come back.
