The Kelvin Hotel

I've travelled for years, and this beautiful hotel is the most interesting and amazing place I've stayed. It's friendly and clean, and I'm going out on a limb to say it's the best place we've stopped. I can't recommend it enough. I'm besotted with it, so come see for yourself.

The Kelvin Hotel has the kind of personal service you don't get from a faceless online booking with a wifi password and keyless entry. The charming proprietor welcomed me warmly and took care of every detail, with tips for local food, live music, parking, and things to do around town. She even lent me an umbrella I'd forgotten and made coffee in a French press when the breakfast lounge machine stopped working. The location is ideal, within walking distance of the lovely downtown harbor, and guest rooms have recently been updated. My room had a kitchenette with a microwave, toaster, and refrigerator. There is some outside noise after 8 AM because the residence is across from the ferry docking station, and the building has no elevator, which may not suit everyone. I'm already planning another visit.

The hotel is very close to everything, especially the ferry and bus routes, and we had a great time in the bar. The staff and rooms were great. It's an old building with lots of history, and the owner has done a great job of keeping its character while renovating some things for comfort. Highly recommend.

The owner was incredibly understanding when I mentioned my grandson's special dietary requirements, and even offered to cook for him if needed. We stayed two nights and got a very friendly welcome. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the prom, railway station, and ferry port are a short walk away. The continental breakfast was reasonably priced and had a good choice. Thank you so much. We'd definitely stay again.
