The Penny Bun

We had a great dinner at The Penny Bun. The food and drinks were delicious, and the low lighting and calming decor made for a nice atmosphere. I think the annex or extension would be the best place on a light evening, and we would have liked to sit there. There was a booking issue, but the staff sorted it quickly. Service may have been a little slower than usual because of that, though everyone was friendly and helpful. We’ll be back.

The quality was hard to argue with, even if it was a touch pricey, maybe The Spenny Bun. My shepherd’s pie was far better than any I’d had before, and the desserts were immense. It’s a lovely spot for a meal, and they were happy to accommodate our unruly toddler. The large outdoor area gave the little one room to run around too. We’ll be back for sure.

The building and its surroundings are beautiful, and the staff were lovely. My wife really enjoyed her plate, but my brisket was completely inedible, insanely overcooked, like shoe leather.

The scallops were a particular highlight, and we both thought the filet steak was delicious. The food was beautifully presented, and the friendly, helpful staff kept everything relaxed. We loved the Scandinavian interior, which feels classy yet cosy. My only small suggestion is to add a couple of slightly higher-quality wines by the glass. It’s a great place we’d definitely recommend.
