Cotswold Lodge Hotel

The location is handy for a short walk into the city, and there’s ample parking. The front desk staff were friendly and quickly sorted out my questions. The building itself is beautiful and has real period character, though the rooms could use some refurbishment. I didn’t try breakfast, so can’t comment on it. The late night bar service was disappointing, as the person serving me seemed never to have made a drink before. Convenient for a short stay, but a bit dated in places.

The restaurant food was excellent, and afterward the cozy, warm bar was a great place to unwind. My room was impressively spacious, and everyone on staff was so friendly and happy to help. I had a fantastic two night stay at the Cotswold hotel last Friday. It has a lovely feel, and the on-site parking is a big plus in Oxford.

Breakfast is worth booking ahead: there are the usual cold choices and a cooked-to-order menu, served very efficiently. My room was clean and well equipped, with traditional furnishings and a very modern ensuite. The mattress was excellent, and my courtyard room was so quiet I didn’t need earplugs. Staff were professional and accommodating. They let me check in a little early and leave my bag the next day. It’s a lovely, reasonably priced hotel close to North Parade and University Parks, and quite central if you’re used to walking. Highly recommended, it’s my new hotel of choice in Oxford.

My wife thought the place had a touch of Fawlty Towers, which sums up the service pretty well. It could be chaotic at times, but in a funny, charming way rather than anything problematic. The room was clean, though a little colder than I’d have liked, which is personal preference. All the staff were friendly and the food was really good. Nothing to complain about, everything was absolutely fine.
