Martyn, the owner, was warm and friendly, and kindly let us check in early. We appreciated that. The location was handy but still peaceful, about a 15-minute walk into the centre. We stayed two nights, and the beds were very comfortable. Our room looked nicely presented, and the tea and coffee were welcome. It was also thoughtful to have a form for requesting fresh linen or more refreshments. There were a couple of small cleanliness misses: dried food on the TV remote and shopping bags left in the wardrobe by previous guests. The car park was much smaller than we expected. We knew spaces were first come, first served, but the entrance is extremely narrow and spaces are limited, so we couldn’t park there and had to use a nearby car park for £16 per day. The floorboards creaked badly too. We could hear every step from the room above, which woke me in the morning and got disruptive after a while. Still, it was a comfortable stay with good service, and I’d come back :)

We had no problems during our two-night stay, and the room was neat, clean and had everything we needed. The self check-in was really easy to follow, even though we arrived after the desk had closed. We chose the guest house mainly for its location, around a 15 to 20 minute walk from Oxford’s city centre. Parking is first come, first served, but there are other options nearby, including a fairly affordable Park & Ride 10 minutes away. I’d definitely recommend it.

The location was okay, but the bedroom felt dated, dusty and worn, and the carpet had stains. I don’t understand having carpet in a hotel room when it collects dust, smells and stains and is hard to keep clean and fresh. The bathroom had been renovated, but it was the smallest I’ve ever seen and there was nowhere to put our things. We could hear other guests far too clearly. The people upstairs seemed to run a marathon for over two hours from 5 am. I couldn’t find a way to control the heater, which was on and warming the room. The window only opened a little, so it got too hot and stuffy. We weren’t comfortable there, and checked out early to escape to another hotel.

A very clean, basic hotel in an excellent spot for catching a bus into the city. Our room was spacious but laid out awkwardly. The bed was fairly comfortable, though the pillows sagged. There wasn’t a socket by the mirror for doing my hair, and the car park was tiny.

The hotel was noisy, and with no staff there at night, some loud guests made for a bad night. Check-in was disappointing too. The receptionist seemed focused only on making us move our car immediately to paid parking, without giving directions or other options. She kept saying it had to happen right away because her shift ended at 17:30, although the hotel information says check-in is available until 20:00. We booked because of the strong reviews and the advertised parking, so that lack of professionalism was really disappointing.
