Marine Hotel Paignton

It makes a handy base for seeing the local area, right on the seafront, and the service and breakfast were good. The nightly entertainment was OK too. The hotel feels a little dated, and Wi-Fi is only available in the bar. Parking is tight, with limited spaces for a hotel this size. The shower cubicle is small, so a larger person might struggle.

The food is tasty, though the portions are small, and the staff are friendly. It's a lovely hotel, with a singer on weekends and a great price. This will be our third visit, and we'll definitely come again.

The place didn't feel worth the money, and I won't be coming back, along with some other people. On arrival, the hotel's appearance put me off; it could do with fresh paint and a facelift. My room was dusty in places. Breakfast was disappointing too, with mushrooms and hash browns missing from the full English. The itinerary said there would be quizzes, but none took place, and there was never a chef's special at dinner. I wasn't given a feedback sheet at the end of the holiday.

We stayed over the August bank holiday weekend and had a pleasant time. The hotel is 50m from the beach, with restaurants, amusement parks and the city centre nearby. There is on-site parking, and we felt we got a lot for our money. The rooms were very clean throughout, spacious and quiet; we didn't hear other guests. Staff were friendly and respectful, and breakfast was good. If you're expecting a Michelin-star restaurant, you'd need to book somewhere five times more expensive. The location is excellent, and we'd recommend the place and return in future. Don't let the negative reviews put you off; people need to get a grip.
