Everything we needed was already there, from towels, a hairdryer and EU visitor adapters to treats, tea, coffee and umbrellas on request. The bed was so comfortable, and the room was better than we expected, nice and clean. The hosts made us feel welcome and comfortable without intruding, and went above and beyond for us. We loved our stay two weekends ago. The only thing I regret is leaving too early in the morning to say goodbye and thank them for making our holiday so good. We’d definitely recommend the place and return when we’re in the area again.

There’s a fantastic park and gardens just a few feet across the road. The house and room are quirky and nice, and the location is good overall. The shower was the one issue: it swung between scalding hot and freezing cold, with nothing in between. We were only there a few days and couldn’t be bothered to report it, as I suspect it’ll end up being replaced after enough people mention the problem.

From the lovely welcome to the lovely goodbye, first and last impressions were amazing. It’s a beautiful house with comfortable beds, all the little bits and bobs you need, and plenty of information about the area. Amazing value for money. I could go on, it was all positive.

The hosts John and Shauna were outstandingly friendly and helpful, and I felt very welcome and safe. I also liked being able to choose whether I wanted my room made up each day, so I could sleep in or do my own thing. They respected my privacy well. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were soft, you could feel the quality. It’s B&B-style accommodation but without breakfast, though there’s a nice breakfast spot across the street. There’s a good range of extras in the house, including fresh organic milk, with plant-based milk too if you prefer, fruit, biscuits, tea and coffee. Plastic use is kept to a bare minimum, the treats and teas are organic and fair trade, and even the toilet paper has been chosen thoughtfully. I’m actually sorry I left so much plastic rubbish when I checked out. The house is charming, an old Victorian place decorated beautifully and consistently, with art throughout that I especially enjoyed. There’s a common room I didn’t use, but it looks lovely, and plates, cups and cutlery are provided. The walls are rather thin and the stairs and floors creak a bit, but it wasn’t an issue as the other guests and hosts seemed mindful about keeping mornings quiet. It was the perfect getaway for me. I’d almost like to keep people from going so my room would always be available exclusively to me, but I can’t and won’t, because everything was on point. Absolute recommendation.
