Room 3 was spacious, comfortable, and had great views. It’s a good value hotel close to town, with the centre only an 8-minute walk away. If you’re lucky, you can park free on the road; otherwise there are car parks in Penzance. The Lugger staff, just 80yds away, were friendly and helpful. Pop in there for a great carvery or other excellent meals throughout the day, plus a good range of beers.

There’s not much security at the front entrance, even though the rooms themselves have locks, so anyone could enter the house without a key. I don’t understand why they can’t add a lock to the main door to make the premises more secure. As a budget place or somewhere to stay with friends, it’s decent, and the customer service was good. They messed up my friends’ and my booking, but sorted it straight away by arranging another room.

A really disappointing stay. Room 4 at the back was tiny, with no wardrobe at all, and nothing like the website photos. I’m sure the sea view rooms are very nice, but this room was nowhere near what I’d expect from a 4-star place. We wouldn’t stay here again. I’ll see what the official raters have to say in due course.

The rooms with en suites were clean and tidy, and some have lovely sea views. It’s within walking distance of both Penzance and Newlyn. Breakfast was tasty, and the chef-waiter was very likeable, with a Brummie accent.

Room 2, Jasmine, is compact, but comfortable enough for the price. The bed was really comfortable, the service friendly, and breakfast good.
