Our Fairway Suite in the main house was spacious, in good condition, and very nice for our birthday stay. We’d booked it for three family members, though, and despite the sofabed being made up, there were only two cups, two glasses, and two robes. A used robe had also been left in the bathroom. The birthday card was a thoughtful touch, but it had the wrong name on it, which added to the feeling that details were being missed. Our afternoon tea booking was also muddled, even though I’d confirmed everything the week before. The tea itself was pleasant, and the staff were friendly but a little disorganised. The building is attractive and set in lovely surroundings, though we couldn’t enjoy the grounds or activities because of the bad weather. When we arrived, they initially couldn’t find our reservation because of a new system, but it was eventually sorted out. Our room faced an internal courtyard. Breakfast was in the attractive main dining room, with a small continental selection and a cooked buffet. It was a pleasant stay, but didn’t feel like a four-star one.

The new luxury pod was roomy, spotless, and had the comfiest bed. We had a lovely breakfast, and dinner at the Cairns restaurant was beautiful. There’s also a cosy bar with board games and a roaring fire. I’d highly recommend it and will definitely be back.

Eolas was the highlight for us. The meal was incredible, proper fine dining, and the ambitious chef deserves all the compliments. The service there was first class too. Earlier, we had lunch at the quiet Cairns restaurant. The food was good, though the chicken burger was described as flame grilled and arrived in batter, which was odd. We also enjoyed a G&T in the inviting bar before dinner. We stayed one night on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast basis. The hotel was spectacularly decorated for Christmas, and the huge tree by the chunky wooden staircase in Reception was a popular photo spot. Our room was cosy and comfortable, with a great view over the golf course. We’d be happy to stay again and thoroughly recommend the hotel and restaurant.

The young woman serving us was really helpful and talked us through everything. We had first class food and service, plus lovely views from our window table. We couldn’t finish it all, so took the rest home for supper. It made for such a lovely day together. Murrayhall made it special. Thank you, and I highly recommend it. ❤️

We relaxed for a few hours with cocktails by the open fire, and our room was warm and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, and the staff were happy to help with anything. We’d used a Christmas gift voucher for bed, breakfast, and an evening meal. Our tea booking at Cairns wasn’t in the system when we arrived, apparently due to a few teething problems with the new system, but they found us a table in Eolas instead and kept the original menu. The steak was amazing. A special thank you to Monica in Eolas, who made us feel welcome even though she hadn’t expected the extra guests.
