The Talbot Hotel, Oundle, Northamptonshire

Oundle is charming, and we’ll come back to explore the area since the weather was awful during our visit. We had a very pleasant stay inside, with an attractive bedroom and a good range of toiletries. The bar was busy and sociable, with comfortable, attractive sofas and chairs. Staff were efficient and happy to help. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, with varied dinner choices and everything cooked just right.

There was just a small patch of mould in the bathroom. Otherwise the overnight stay was really pleasant: the room was nicely decorated, the bed was comfy, the shower had great pressure, and I liked the warm lighting, luxurious toiletries, Nescafe machine and classical radio. Check-in was quick and simple. We’d come for the Christmas afternoon tea, which was lovely. There were delicious, moist mini cakes, scones with jam and clotted cream, sandwiches and what felt like endless tea. A singer with a stunning voice performed the whole time. The tea room felt warm and cosy, and the decor was attractive. Even though it was busy, the staff were polite and quick.

Sunday lunch was excellent, and we added breakfast too. We enjoyed drinks in the cosy bar, and everyone we met was friendly. Jane, I think that was her name, was especially helpful on a very busy Sunday afternoon and was attentive and friendly when checking us out on Monday 2nd March. Our room at The Old Talbot was spacious, very clean and had excellent facilities. The welcome note was a nice touch, and there was a good selection on the tea tray. We also liked the coffee machine and Roberts DAB Retro Radio. It’s a place with deep history, right in the proper market town of Oundle. Highly recommend a stay.

Our room was cosy, clean and comfortable, and breakfast was gorgeous. Dinner and wine were delicious and worth the price. Kerrie served us at both meals and was friendly, helpful and fun. Everyone on staff was lovely. We had a great night and will be back.
