There was plenty of room for eight adults, with comfortable beds and living room seating, plus a huge kitchen table. The two kitchens were very usable and had most of the equipment needed to prepare meals for a big group. The large enclosed garden is good for children and pets. It feels like stepping back in time, which is exactly what we liked, and the dated furniture suits the cottage. Everything was clean and tidy, and we found wine, tea, coffee and milk in the fridge when we arrived. We’d come again.

We booked a week but left after four days and went home. The annex had no heating, and the quilts and our clothes were damp. Then the boiler began making horrendous noises, so we had to switch it off and had no hot water. We’d had enough by then. We couldn’t get into the cottage until 5pm, supposedly so it could be thoroughly cleaned, but it wasn’t clean at all or COVID safe. The kitchen was disgusting, with dirty pots in the cupboards and a filthy sink, so we all had to pitch in and clean the whole place. The furniture was old and very shabby. We paid for the week, and never again.

The cottage was comfortable and clean, and lovely to stay in, in a lovely location. But we had a few small property issues that never got sorted. The local management office didn’t answer when we called, and Cottages 4 You, who we booked through, were dismissive. We spent the whole week with the problems unresolved, and the after-sales service left me unimpressed.

We booked a week starting 16 March but came home on the 18th after just two days. The cottage was damp and unhealthy, and the toilet was broken. Nobody would discuss a refund or compensation. Awful service.

The accommodation is roomy, and there are lockable parking spaces. The village has excellent amenities, with the attractions of the Dales and the East Coast nearby.
