The staff go out of their way to help, and access is good for people with limited mobility. With refurbishment underway, this intimate theatre is quickly earning a reputation as a class act. It puts on popular productions, and the Christmas shows are becoming a regular family outing, in partnership with the highly successful Barbican Theatre. They also host talks on a wide range of subjects with highly respected speakers. It’s a place for both an intimate liaison and a family outing. Very highly recommended.

This cosy retro theatre has two bars, with drinks served during the interval, and the service feels personal and friendly. The seats are a bit cramped if you’re larger, but it’s a must visit. Some good clubs meet there, including photography, and there are lunchtime lectures. Especially suitable for over 50s.

The venue may not be new, but it has character, and the Christmas Carol - La Nevet Bete show was amazing. The trouble was the popcorn in paper bags. That might be fine at a cinema, but from near the back I was trying to hear the actors while people all around me rustled their bags. It ruined the show, all for the few quid they make on popcorn.

A traditional theatre, comfortable enough for a decent performance, as long as you’re not over six foot. The leg room is a little tight!

A fantastic 340-seat theatre, with performances of all kinds. It also has a lecture hall, members’ lounge, meeting rooms and a local interest library, all available for hire. What more could you ask for?
