The only thing I’d change is that I’d have liked the roast potatoes a bit darker. Everything else was fresh, with proper carrots, cabbage and mash. I had the gammon in a kids’ portion because I don’t have a big appetite. It was £6.95 and I still couldn’t finish it. My sister had the adult beef portion, and it looked like she hadn’t touched it, the portions are so big. It was our first visit for Sunday lunch, but definitely not the last. Now I know why people recommended it!

The landlady and staff gave us a warm welcome when we came to The Upton Arms for Sunday lunch. The food was top notch, piping hot and delicious, and the staff were welcoming, prompt and did all they could to make it a good experience. We tried the chocolate sponge with custard too, a brilliant end to a fantastic dinner. Great meal and service. I’d highly recommend it and will definitely be back soon.

The staff were friendly and polite, but I didn’t enjoy the food. It was way overpriced, the gravy was watery and the roast potatoes were soaked in oil. I know every restaurant does things differently, but the quality wasn’t for me. I had to stand with my baby in my arms and wait for a high chair after asking four times. The table was mucky, and there was a spider dangling from the ceiling. That’s why, as you may have noticed, all but one plate had about the same amount of food left as it started with. I’m not trying to ruin a business. I just wish I’d read more reviews before coming. Thanks.

We had Sunday dinners for three adults and three kids, and left more than 90% of the food. The chef said they’d had nothing but good reviews and that today’s meal was like that because she was on her own. I might understand if it had been busy, but we were the only people in the pub eating. The meat was stone cold, the condiments were out of date, and the Yorkshire pudding was soggy, greasy and undercooked. Some vegetables were mush, while the cauliflower and carrots were literally raw. It was the worst Sunday dinner, and the worst meal, I’ve ever been served. I wouldn’t eat here again.

I can’t comment on the rooms, as I only popped in for a quick beer with my son. It wasn’t too busy, the other customers were pleasant, and the staff were friendly, helpful and nice. There’s a fair choice of drinks, and the floors, tables and language were all clean. Parking outside, plus tables at the front and a beer garden to the side. It’s a nice old building. Recommended.
